Puppy Classes

PUPPY SCHOOL IN MELBOURNE

Puppy

This will not be a surprise to anyone who has been attending classes recently.  After 27 years of operating Dog Training Classes, we have made the difficult decision to make 2023 the last year we will run our Dog Training and Puppy Classes.

We have had the pleasure of seeing so many puppies grow into well behaved dogs and supported so many clients with not only their first but sometimes second, third and even fourth dogs. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers who attended over the 27 years. We simply would not have had the success we have had without all of you.

It has been extremely enjoyable to have run our classes, to have met so many people and seen so many dogs loved and trained over so many years. Not many people are as privileged to have been successful doing something they have truly enjoyed.

On our first night running classes at Norwood it was 38 degrees and we had 3 dogs attend. At our peak we had over 200 dogs a week attending classes.  We have been very lucky to enjoy such times.

We understand that this will be upsetting too many people; we hope however that people will understand that we have not made this decision lightly.  I know many of you will be asking why we have decided to finish and in the end, there is not one singular reason but instead several reasons, including but not limited to changes to cost and coverage in insurance, limited location options to run classes and substantial increases to the costs of running classes.  Some of you may also be aware that one of our senior trainers has been diagnosed with a very serious health issue.

Over the years we have committed long hours and our weekends to running classes, as we get older it is time for us to wind back a little.   All good things must, unfortunately, come to an end.

Post 2023 we will continue to offer ”in home” lessons as well as the “dog boarding school” to help our customers with their training needs going forward.  We will also be seeking to offer new services in the future and will announce these on our website as well as our Facebook page as soon as we are able to.

Our last class will run on Sunday the 10th of December 2023. If you have ever been to our classes and would like to drop in and say goodbye please drop by between 10am and 12pm on the 10th. Our last session will be a bit of a celebration of the last 27 years. We would love to see anyone that has enjoyed the classes over this time.

If anyone would like to discuss this further call us on (03) 9723 4387.

“There is no more important time in your dog’s life than in the period from 6 to 20 weeks of age. For this reason, there is probably no more important training you will do with your dog than puppy classes.” Michael Garden

Yes, we do have age restrictions in place for our puppy preschool in Melbourne. We currently accept puppies from 10 weeks to 5 months of age. After approximately 5 months of age, pups will move from our puppy classes up to our basic dog training class.
We encourage every new puppy owner to consider puppy training from an early age. Multiple studies have found that exposing puppies to high levels of stimuli early in life can improve their overall temperament as well as increase their ability to handle stress – both as a puppy and an adult. Puppy schools in Melbourne can help prevent many common behavioural problems in pups, such as aggression, separation anxiety, fears, and many more.
To ensure this exposure is in as safe environment as possible, our puppy school is conducted on sealed surfaces that have been exposed to ultra violet light, and all dog waste is cleared up promptly. We also ensure that all adult dogs who participate have been fully vaccinated. These precautions allow us to create the safest environment for your puppy.

Our puppy trainers in Melbourne cover the following areas in each puppy class:

  • Basic obedience puppy training (including commands such as sit, drop, stand and come)
  • Preventing bad behaviours such as jumping up and nipping
  • Puppy toilet training
  • How to prevent aggression over food, bones, toys and other items
  • Correct socialisation of puppies (there is more to socialisation than simply letting your puppy play with other dogs)
  • How not to barge though doors and how to be calm in the house
  • How to lie on a matt until told to come off

As with all of our dog training classes, our puppy training in Melbourne is run by instructors who have been through a thorough training program and have extensive puppy training experience. As a result, we can assist with a range of issues, including puppy toilet training.

To give our clients the best chances of success, our puppy trainers are also available before and after classes to provide advice. There is plenty of time allocated in our puppy classes in Melbourne for all of your questions.

Our puppy classes have two different time slots: Thursday evenings at 7.00pm and Sunday mornings at 10.00am. The classes are held at Norwood Secondary College, situated on Byron St in Ringwood (Melways Reference 49 K4). You will see signs both on Byron St as well as once you’ve entered the School, helping to show you where to go.

We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before the puppy training class begins, and you should bring your puppy, a lead, and your puppy’s vaccination card.

After you’ve enjoyed your first two free puppy school and preschool classes, we offer 3 different options for you to choose from if you wish to continue puppy training (we’re sure you will!).

Our Bronze Membership has no upfront membership fee and you can attend as many classes as you choose for the small fee of $60.00 per class.

Our Silver membership is ideal for those wanting to attain a basic level of control and obedience. This membership level has an annual membership fee of $300.00 and then you only pay a $10 fee for each class you and your puppy attend.

Our Gold membership is designed for those wanting to train their puppy to a higher obedience level. The cost is a once-off membership fee of $450.00. After this, you will incur no training fees regardless of how often you attend classes. You can also train from puppy class right through to advanced obedience levels at no further cost. This membership stays valid until the 31st of December 2023.

We do offer reduced rates for second dogs. All memberships are non-refundable. You can also upgrade your membership at any time.

We get asked this question a lot! The short answer is that we genuinely believe our free puppy training classes will allow you to see for yourself the effectiveness of our puppy training in Melbourne, encouraging you to train with us further. It really is that simple.

Come along to our puppy school and try two obligation-free puppy classes at no charge. Other puppy schools can charge around $80.00 for these, but we promise that you won’t pay a thing until after these two free classes.

Due to concern for the welfare of our customer’s dogs, we have chosen to implement a heat policy. If the temperature in Ringwood is higher than 36 degrees after 5pm on Thursday afternoons, all puppy training classes will be cancelled. We also recommend that no puppy under the age of 12 weeks should attend if the temperature is over 34 degrees. We apologise for any inconvenience this heat policy may cause, however we truly feel this is a genuine safety concern that we need to address.

If you have any questions regarding our puppy school classes, call our puppy trainers anytime on (03) 9723 4387 to obtain more information.
